Since so many babies are born addicted to drugs, why aren’t they routinely tested at birth??
Seriously, wouldn’t this make an impact?
You can’t test every baby because for instance at least this is the way it is in the state of Texas….you have to have a consent signed to be drug tested (the mother). A mother can deny to be drug tested and there is nothing you can do unless there is proof that they are on drugs. Therefore the baby won’t be tested unless they know the mother has been on drugs.
You would also have a lot more babies taken by the state and put in foster care than you can imagine. Yes we can all say that they would be better off in foster care than at home with an environment with drugs but in reality there would be no room for the enormous amounts of children you would have in foster care.
