sleep schedule babies

Can you really put babies on a schedule?
Okay, so some people seem to think you can put babies on a schedule, and other people say you just have to sleep when baby sleeps. This is important to me because I give birth in one week and if you know how to do this, could you please give me some direction, or some guidelines?
You CAN put babies on a schedule. But you also have to work around theirs. What you really need to do is to not worry about it too much for the first few weeks. You’ll have enough things to get used to! But once you start to sort of get used to having the baby around, you can start to do some things regularly. This doesn’t mean you can map out every minute of the day. Just try to always give them their bath at ABOUT the same time, and try to put them in bed at about the same time. As you get used to those routines, you can add in more. It will take time as you get used to what your baby needs and what works for you. Just try to do things in the same order all the time – don’t necessarily try to do things always at the same time. For example, before bed, read the baby a book, then give him or her a bath, then a bottle in the rocker, then put them in bed. Good luck!
