Are all breastfed babies prescribed vitamins?

My daughter went to her six month appointment the other day and the doctor said, “Well since she is breastfed I’m going to prescribe her some vitamins.” She also has cereal twice a day, and I have always been under the impression that breastmilk has all of the nutrition babies need until six months when their iron stores begin to deplete, and then adding cereal into the mix would provide the extra iron. She is healthy weight, eats very well, and I am wondering why she now has to take vitamins. I read on the instructions that the multivitamins with fluoride were for babies with a poor diet and/or bad quality of fluoride in their drinking water. Since she does not eat formula, she does not have anything to do with regular drinking water. Have any of your breastfed babies had to take these? Just wondering…
*She has also begun to start eating gerber fruits and vegetable purees.

My daughter was also breastfed throughout her first year. I did start her on vitamins at around 7 months old.

You are right, iron stores begin decreasing at 6 months. I give it to my daughter because of the iron, and also the Vitamin D, because it lacks in breastmilk, unless you have your baby for sometime out in the sun (but it’s also bad to have them in the sun too much).
My daughter is also a very picky eater, so that’s why I give her vitamin drops as well, cause she never liked cereal.

But if your baby is a great eater, and you put her out on the sun often, then she might not need them.
