babies fever 103
A 3 month old baby with a high fever?

My son just turned 3 months (a week go) and for the past 48 hours, he’s been having a high fever (usually around 103) and sometimes even close to 105. He does not cough or has a runny nose. He is cranky, keeps crying, eats less and sleeps more than he used tooooo. What could the reason be and is it dangerous for a small baby to have a high fever?

A baby this young should NOT have a fever or be this sick, he should still have your immunities from pregnancy. The pediatrician I work for says any child 3 months and younger with a fever is considered an “emergency” in our office and they get seen right away. If your pediatrician’s office is already closed for the evening I highly suggest and ER visit. With a fever that high it sounds like a bacterial infection (ear infection, urinary tract infection, throat infection). I’m usually not one of those people that suggests ER visits, because I’m very laid back and as a pediatric nurse most things tend to not really be that serious…But please, please, please…take your son to be seen tonight! Best of luck and I hope he gets better soon!
