babies development stages
when can a baby sleep with a favorite stuffed toy or blankie?

My 12 week old son has made an attachement to a small furry blanket. He likes to snuggle it and he usually falls asleep snuggling it, but we don’t let him sleep in his crib with it (for obvious suffocation reasons). At what stage in development, or age, can a baby start sleeping with a stuffed toy or blankie in their crib?

A baby can be left alone with a blanket or stuffed animal once he can lift his head considerably well, on his own and is able to turn over too. You should still check on him periodically (for suffocation) until he is able to pull if from his head on his own (I know a 12 month old who nearly strangled herself because she didn’t know how to pull the blanket off her head).
