when to start babies on baby food

at what age(months) do you start feeding babies baby food?
My brothers girlfriend has a 6 month old from pervious relationship.. My aunt is all upset because she is feeding him formula still she says she should be giving him the baby ceral and baby food and stuff. Jess says she wants to make her own baby food but not right now. I agree with her but my aunt is all upset and carrying on that she is starving her son. She is a VERY good mom and he sleeps 9pm till 8am pretty good eh!!! but id like to know what age that happens at i think its 12 months i know you can start now but really you can start at 12 months to ???
Babies don’t need to eat solids until they are 12 months. They were born to take formula and breastmilk until then. However, many people start solids between 4-6 months and that’s fine, too. The ADA states not to start earlier than 6 months because they feel it’s associated with an increased risk of food allergies, and many of the pediatricians agree.
I would say that a baby sleeping 11 hours is well fed and if he’s gaining wait normally and peeing and pooping normally then that’s a sign that the baby is getting enough nutrition. The pediatrician would tell your friend if she wasn’t feeding the baby enough.
She will have to get used to this because it doesn’t get easier..everyone thinks that what they did is best…even judging by comments here that shows that idea. I did feed my child early because he kept trying to grab food off my plate and it worked out fine for us, but on the days when he drinks more than he eats, I don’t freak out.
She’s fine! He’s fine! Tell your aunt that her input is helpful but it’s not her choice to make!
Good luck!
