miracle babies australia
how& when did the continents get there names?

ever wonder who named or effected the naming of a certain continent.

i know asia was the wife of the farrow who took care of moses as a baby. however i am not sure how exactly her name ended up on a continent she wasn’t from.
another is america i think it’s Spanish for Miracle and also the name of the fist who sailed to that region “americo visbutchi”

Africa Europe Australia how did the rest get there names?

The names in the “old world” – Asia, Europe and Africa – are greek in origin.

Asia derives from Assyrian “asu” meaning “east”. The greek turned it into the word “Asia” meaning sunrise. The story about Moses was later invented by christian scholars. The reason is obvious: Asia is in the east, where the sun rises

Europe: Europe was a greek princess and zeus fell in love with her. He turned into a bull and kidnapped her. He flew with her above the Bosporus. There she panicked and fell into the sea. She died, but zeus named Europe after her to remember her

Africa: The origin of the word is still a little uncertain, but it is credible to see a connection from Latin (Africa = sunny) and Greek (Aphrike = not cold)

America: Named after Amerigo Vespucci an explorer who was the first to discover that America is a continent and not India as Columbus believed. (Otherwise it would be the United States of Columbia maybe). In Latin his names ist spelled Americo.

Australia: From latin: lat. terra australis – land in the south.
